What a great time of year! At least that applies to most people. Has been a very busy time for me even though I’m retired. Getting ready for the family to come for Thanksgiving to my house is setting a new tradition for Thanksgiving or at least that’s what they were saying while here visiting. 🙂
Of course that did not leave me much time for motorcycle riding even though the weather was perfect. Did sneak in some riding time just before family started to arrive a few days before Thanksgiving. Since then have gotten quite a few days of great weather and done a lot of riding, just haven’t been doing any videos or writing content about it.
Will drop a few videos below of some riding done lately just to prove that I haven’t stopped riding or writing content.
Since it’s almost Christmas time, thought you motorcycle minded people might find some gift ideas from a couple of the following links… doesn’t hurt to look since most are running Christmas specials right now.

First camping trip since my accident last year. Had others planned previously but life sometimes gets in the way and had to cancel.
Loaded all the gear including the motorcycle, headed out to the campground on November 5, 2021. Planned to be there until the 11th. Weather forecast was looking good, bit of a chill at night but no rain and usually warmed up during the day to mid 70’s or high 60’s. Was a great trip time to camp, was able to ride the Suzuki every day.
Camped with my brother and sister-in-law, of course they have an awesome setup with their RV and do a lot of camping all year. Nothing like sitting by a fire at night, sleeping well at night in my little weird trailer but hey, kept it warm with a heater and a couple of blankets on the bed. Then the next morning waking to the chill, starting a fire and cooking breakfast outside. LOL
Then being able to go for rides on the motorcycle through the Black River Forest exploring the various roads and routes, pretty darn nice for sure. It really was a good time with lots of fun and relaxation. Will add some photo’s and videos below of this camping experience. 🙂
Am now in the process of preparing for Thanksgiving at my home this week. Been working on the place, cleaning, etc etc…. reason this post did not happen until now. 🙂

Haven’t taken long trips as of late but rather doing some local rides to get that much needed wind therapy.
In the market for a larger motorcycle at this time, need more of a touring style bike to carry bigger loads and be more comfortable on long trips. Really want to get out on the open road soon and do some long distance exploring.
Current bike, Suzuki is great for a couple hundred miles or so if you don’t need to carry much luggage. They say it’s also rated as a touring bike but honestly, it’s not. Yes, you could take long trips on it if you stayed on the back roads and stopped often to stretch and get the feeling back in your backside. LOL Just don’t think it’s the right bike for freeway speeds or long distances, engine is too small.
Until then it’s local short rides in the area to keep my mind clear and get that much needed wind therapy always talked about.
Will post a couple of videos of one of my last rides on October 23, 2021. Have ridden since a few times but don’t always run a camera. Sometimes it’s just no cares, no cameras, no thoughts other than what is in front of you. 🙂 Camera was mounted in a different place on the two videos posted below.

Rather than join a large group of riders for “911 NEVER FORGET” day this year, decided to create my own FreedomRide. After all, this is about being free. Decision was to saddle up, put on my Freedom shirt and ride. No destination in the beginning but after a few miles decided that riding over to Blackwater River State Park was an excellent idea.
Was suppose to camp there back in August of this year but due to illness had to cancel the reservation. Have camped there before and absolutely love the place. It is my favorite camping place so far, but then again I’ve not camped at too many places yet. Have a reservation setup for early November, hope that nothing gets in the way of this one.
The ride that day 09/11/2021 turned out to be approximately 154 miles round trip. My Freedom Ride was meant to honor those lost on that tragic day (09/11/2001) and to never forget what happened. After that day we’ve lost so many freedoms in the name of safety. The world has changed since then. My wish is that we could someday go back to feeling the freedom we had before that infamous day!
Before going home, rode out to the place of my motorcycle accident in June of 2020. Had not visited the area on a motorcycle since the accident. Needed to do that for some weird reason. Located the lady that I hit since she works near the accident scene, was able to apologize in person and thank her for her concerns on the night of the accident. (Closure?)

That tragic day actually brought this country together in ways probably never experienced before. Everyone forgot about politics, prejudices, and ill will to others, except to the terrorists. It was a time of confusion, disbelief, shock, and all out patriotism. I felt like many Americans, ready to get back in uniform and fight whatever enemy we faced.

Since this ride was more than three hours long, had to split, choose some of the riding areas that I thought might be more interesting. First video was early in the ride on a road that I’ve ridden many times in the past and enjoy riding. All excerpts are approximately five minutes long.
This next video is on the road off Highway 90 leading to Blackwater River State Park.
Below video is a slow ride through the camp grounds at Blackwater State Park. Will give you an idea of what it’s like there. Love the camp ground, is reasonably priced, has full hook-ups for RV’s and trailers. Electricity, water, bathrooms and showers available. Hiking trails, access to the river for swimming, picnic pavilions, boarded walkways and near by rent a canoe or kayak and take either a four or eleven mile float down the Blackwater River. My brother and I try to take that eleven mile kayak trek down the river each year but missed last year due to my accident.
This last video was after leaving the campgrounds and heading north out into the Blackwater River State Forest. Did a lot of riding through the forest, this is only a five minute clip of the scenery.

For years when going north through Georgiana, Alabama saw signs pointing to the Hank Williams Museum, or home of Hank Williams. Now pretty sure that most all people know who Hank Williams is even if you don’t care for country music, right? This was a great excuse to get in a decent ride, beautiful day and no rain in sight. LOL The ride round trip was approximately 120-130 miles and felt soooo good! My phone died so lost the “My Ride” app info that is usually recorded on my trips.
This museum/home is packed with memorabilia from Hank’s short life, not really sure it could be classed as a museum but the lady in charge sure knows everything and then some about Hank Williams and his life. The address is 127 Rose Avenue, Georgiana, Alabama. When there you are allowed to take photos, videos, and ask any questions you want to know. Super nice lady. Yes I got some photos to share with you down below, as well as some videos of the ride itself. Also understand there is another Hank Williams museum in Montgomery, Alabama but haven’t been there yet, might just do that one someday too. 🙂 Actually his first name was Hiram but at some point he started calling himself Hank!
Hiram “Hank” Williams was an American singer, songwriter, and musician. Regarded as one of the most significant and influential American singers and songwriters of the 20th century, he recorded 35 singles that reached the top 10 of the Billboard Country & Western Best Sellers chart, including 11 that reached No. 1.
Widely considered country music’s first superstar, Hiram “Hank” Williams was born September 17, 1923, in Mount Olive, Alabama. Cut from rural stock, Williams, the third child of Lon and Lillie Williams, grew up in a household that never had much money. His father worked as a logger before entering the Veterans Administration hospital when young Hank was just six. Father and son rarely saw each other over the next decade, with Williams’ mother, who ran rooming houses, moving the family to Greenville and later Montgomery, Alabama. His childhood was also shaped by his spinal condition, spina bifida, which set him apart from other kids his age.
He seemed to identify most with the musical sounds out of the radio and those from church choirs. Hank learned how to play folk, country and, thanks to an African-American street musician named Rufus Payne, the blues. By the time he’d moved with his mother to Montgomery in 1937, Hank’s music career was already in motion. Picking up the guitar for the first time at the age of eight, Williams was thirteen when he made his radio debut. A year later he was entering talent shows and had his own band, Hank Williams and his Drifting Cowboys.
In the early 1940s, he’d caught the attention of music executives in Nashville. Coupled with Hank’s obvious talents as a singer/songwriter was an increasing dependence on alcohol, which he’d started abusing in order to relieve his sometimes excruciating back pain. As a result, he was not considered a reliable performer. Along with this early success came increased erratic behavior and often showed up at live performances drunk.
As the titles of some of Williams’ songs suggest, heartbreak and turmoil were never that far from his life. As his success deepened, so did his dependence on alcohol and morphine. The Opry eventually fired him, and in 1952 his wife, the mother of Hank Williams Jr. divorced. On December 30, 1952, Williams, newly married to a younger woman named Billie Jean, left for Charlestown, West Virginia. Liquored up and abusing morphine, he collapsed in a hotel room in Knoxville, Tennessee. A doctor was called to examine him. Despite his physical failings, Williams was cleared for more travel.
On New Year’s Day 1953, in the back seat of his 1952 Cadillac he and his driver were headed to do a concert in Canton, Ohio, his health took a turn for the worse. After not hearing from Hank for two hours, driver pulled the car over in Oak Hill, West Virginia, at 5:30 in the morning. Hank was pronounced dead a short while later.

Since the last video was cut short, decided to do a turn around and drive by as I was leaving to go home. Short ride around the block and then back out to the main highway headed home. 🙂

And finally, this last video is not one of mine. Found this online, was recorded back in November of 2019 by a gentleman by the name of Greg Warren. He did a very good job of video taping his whole experience at the Hank Williams museum in Georgiana, including the nice lady I was talking about at the beginning of this post. Was funny she was saying some of the exact same words to me when I first walked in. FYI, the cost to visit is only $5 for each adult and you can walk around and see everything, stay as long as you want, no rush. 🙂 Enjoy his video, maybe someday I’ll get the right equipment to compete with something like this… LOL

Please don’t take from my last post that riding in the rain is a total disaster. Not near as much fun as riding without the rain but when you ride a motorcycle, learning to ride in the rain is also necessary. Let’s call it training. Since I like to ride, getting wet once in a while is not all bad. Don’t prefer rain riding but better than not riding at all. 🙂
Last post was a ride done on the 19th of July 2021, todays post is about part of my ride on the 23rd of July, 2021. Rode some in between those dates but don’t record all rides when I go out, sometimes it’s nice to forget the camera, phone, and any other equipment. Just strap on the helmet and GO!
On this ride, didn’t record all of it but the ride was one of those with no destination, no objective except to just get out and ride on another beautiful day here in paradise. The part recorded on the “My Ride” app was approximately ninety miles but the ride was really closer to 120 miles that day.

Below is a short video near the beginning of the ride when I first turned on the camera. This portion of the ride started on the back side of Lake Jackson, out to Clear Springs Road and then left toward highway 331 in Paxton.
Next video is a short clip near the end of the ride on some roads that I’ve been on many times before.

In my last post, mentioned the fact that my computer had crashed and had taken it to see if repair was an option or at least save the data stored on it. The good and the bad. The bad part was the computer was really old anyway and there was absolutely nothing to be done to save it. Hard drive had multiple issues. Good news is the “I Fix Computers” shop in DeFuniak Springs, Florida was able to recover ALL data on the old hard drive. 🙂
Happy is an understatement, feared that all was lost permanently. Photo’s, videos, records stored in the document section plus lots of other things that were important to me since I do lots of things online now and in the past. By the way, that’s a great place to take your computer if you have issues, really know their business.
Ended up buying a computer from them, they transferred all data from the broken one, placed it in one single folder on the new computer. No charge for the transfer since I was purchasing the computer from them. Was easy to pick and choose what was to be retained and trash anything that was not necessary. Sorta like getting a chance to clean up your computer, which I would bet no one really takes the time to do. 🙂 By the way, videos use us a TON of space on hard drives.
While deleting some of the no longer needed videos to make more space on the new computer, accidentally deleted ALL videos. That really hurt my feelings, mostly for being so stupid as to pull a stunt like that. LOL There was only a few that really needed to be saved but oh well, we live and die with our mistakes.
Let’s get back to my FANTASTIC idea! You remember on the 17th (see last post) it was such a beautiful day, great day for a ride and I thoroughly enjoyed getting back out on the road. So on Monday the 19th when the call came to pick up my new computer the thought hit me that another beautiful day to ride. DeFuniak Springs is only about twenty five miles or so from my house. Plus I have a nice laptop case that fits perfectly on the rear seat of my motorcycle and a way to strap it down securely so why not ride the Suzuki to make this pick up?
Just me looking for every excuse to ride. 🙂
Checked the weather of course as usual before riding, chances for rain in the time period I needed to make the trip were very slim, actually less chance than the 17th when we had that most beautiful day. Even checked the radar a few times and there was absolutely no reason not to ride that day. Possible rain much later in the afternoon as usual but would be back long before that was suppose to happen. Rode down, picked up the computer and on my way back….. hard to describe, video below will totally explain. Be sure to watch it on YouTube full screen and turn up the volume. A great day it was and such a fantastic idea to ride the motorcycle!
Liquid Sunshine
Now I’m guessing that AccuWeather really blew this one or that’s just liquid sunshine and I don’t know the difference?
Let me say that I’ve been rained on before and gotten pretty wet, BUT never have I been this WET in my entire life. When I say there was not one dry spot on me, that’s no joke. Won’t go into details here, but there was NOT a single dry spot anywhere on my body! When I finally got home, parked under the carport, stepped off the bike it created a huge dripping puddle all around my feet. Removed all wet clothing on the carport, threw clothes in the washer and realized paperwork that I had stuck in my pockets was, lets just say spongy at best. 🙂 Good thing the computer bag was water proof other wise my new computer might not have survived.
The trip down was a bit dryer, certainly more manageable as seen in the video below. This light rain started when I was about half way to DeFuniak Springs. Video below is last part of the trip there and arriving at I FIX COMPUTERS. Maybe I should get some rain gear to pack in my saddle bags and start loving to ride in the rain? NOT!
That’s the end to this episode, everything dried out, computer works great and I’m ready to ride again. In fact next post you might find really interesting. Be sure to stay tuned.

As I’ve posted on RaysMotoring facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/raysmotoring/ and other places, it has been raining a LOT in this neck of the woods for a while now. Seems almost every day there is at least a 50% chance of rain all over the area. As a person who loves to get out and ride that has really been quite depressing.
As luck would have it on July 17, 2021, even though there was a forty to fifty percent chance of rain, decided to take a chance and just go ride in the rain if necessary. Was determined to get a ride in no matter how wet I got.
Again no place to go, just get out and start riding, see where the mind takes me. Below is a photo of the “My Ride” app I use to show my route and other specifics about the ride.
As you can see it was a tad over 100 miles and actual riding time of about two hours and three minutes. Guess what, not one drop of rain even came near me, dry as a bone in the desert the entire day with bright sunshine the entire ride. Could have ridden longer but had tasks that needed to be handled and cut it short for the day.

Well the ride happened, video recorded, ready to make a post about this rare event and wouldn’t you know the day before remembered my computer had crashed, nada, zilch, zero, nothing would work. Sooo……
Took the computer to a place in DeFuniak Springs, Florida on the sixteenth, a day before this ride. The shop “I Fix Computers Inc.” is located about twenty five miles or so from my home. Was on a Friday and the gentleman told me he would not be able to work on it until Monday which I totally understood. After explaining the situation to him, he explained that since the computer was really old it might not be worth fixing but he would try to recover all data that I had on the hard drive.
While there, I realized he also sold refurbished laptops so we discussed if possible he could just transfer the data from the broken computer to the new one I agreed to purchase. Had my fingers crossed he could save the data, there was really years worth of stuff on there that would really hurt my feelings if lost.
Next post will explain the results and what happened on Monday July 19, 2021.

Haven’t been posting lately because much has been going on in my life. That plus it’s been raining so much here almost every day that getting in a decent ride over an hour or so is most difficult.
June 14th. was the one year anniversary of my worst motorcycle experience ever. That was the day of the accident back in 2020. Really bad year all around. Maybe I shouldn’t be quite so negative since it certainly could have been much worse.
Yes, I have been riding short distances, running to the local store, visiting some of my neighbors and relatives that live close by but that’s really been the essence of my riding as of late. Use any excuse possible to jump on that Suzuki and ride! That does provide me with the necessary wind therapy which is a must at this point, but not the motorcycle rides that are exciting and interesting. Good practice though and continued practice is certainly a good thing.
Just making this post to let ya know, I’m still alive and hoping to get back out there on some decent rides very soon. Have some planned but will take some better weather to place them in my experience.

Had planned yesterday to do a ride with video and then talk about the ride here. However, the weather report was not in favor of riding yesterday. Turns out weather reports were wrong, it was a beautiful day, sunshine and no rain in sight.
Last night checked the weather for today showed only a 7% chance of rain until around three or so in the afternoon. Since that was less chance than yesterday, looked as if it would be a fantastic day to ride. Got up early this morning checked the weather reports again, several different sources and chances had gone down for rain.
No reason to hesitate, dressed, pack a couple of things for the ride and in my mind thinking, “lets do this” gonna be a great day. The round trip for my destination would have been about 130 miles, with that said, I could spend some time there and still be back home before any rain was possible. That was according to weather reports!
Hopped on feeling good, relaxed, doing the thing I love most, riding. Maybe twenty miles from home and guess what, weather report was totally wrong. Imagine that. Yes, it started pouring rain but I pushed on for a couple of miles thinking, this is just a shower and will soon stop and then I’ll dry out and no harm done. Wrong again, it didn’t stop.
Was closer to home than any shelter I was aware of so decided to turn around and head that way. Now I’ve heard bikers say they love riding in the rain or it doesn’t bother them but it does me. Frankly thinking they have a screw loose anyway to say that. 🙂 Not fun or relaxed for me to ride two wheels on a wet road and no windshield wiper on the helmet visor. Had I been closer to my destination, probably would not have turned around but made no sense to continue at that time.
Returned home, sun was shining bright but clouds were forming. By the time I changed out of my wet clothing the bottom fell out, pouring rain. Now the weather reports are saying severe weather, thunderstorms and winds possible in the area. Funny how fast the weather can change here in north Florida and south Alabama.
Since I wasn’t able to make the ride today and write about it, decided to write about this experience, real life of a motorcyclists and the struggle to ride everyday. 🙂
Video posted below shows a little of what it’s like to ride in the rain. At the end of the video was making a turn off the highway to maybe find some tree or other shelter to get under. Well didn’t happen, so turned back to the main highway, rain seemed to be easing up some so headed north again on my journey. That was a mistake, started raining even harder, that’s when I turned around and said not today Suzi, will try again soon.
With all that said, still got to ride some today and that always makes for a good day to this country boy.
